ZTE MC801 VS Huawei 5G CPE Pro

As the first 5G WiFi router, Huawei 5G CPE Pro is now being well-known by many customers worldwide and it has been available for a few months. As the competitor to Huawei, ZTE is also one of the important 5G vendors in the world and its new 5G router ZTE MC801 is available recently. For many users, they wonder which one is better between ZTE MC801 and Huawei 5G CPE Pro? And what’s the difference between Huawei 5G CPE Pro and ZTE MC801? Today, we will compare the two 5G wireless routers to provide some clue for the advantage and disadvantage from the two Chinese 5G vendors.

ZTE MC801 VS Huawei 5G CPE Pro Appearance Difference

From the ZTE MC801 review and Huawei 5G CPE Pro review, you may get some knowledge about the two routers. They both have cool and modern design. Below the images will show the design difference. The Huawei 5G CPE Pro looks similar to its predecessor model Huawei B618 4G Router. ZTE MC801 Router adopts the runway-type streamline design, which won iF Design Award 2019. The design looks really cool.

On front of the routers, they both have some LED indicators to show the connection status. Huawei 5G CPE Pro show the 5G, 4G and WiFi status with a button for Hilink while ZTE 5G Router MC801 shows the status of Network, WiFi, SIM, and Power. On the back, the Huawei 5G CPE Pro (H112-372) has two LAN ports(one also for WAN), one power button, two connectors for external antenna. The ZTE 5G CPE has two LAN ports, one USB Type C port and one WPS button. Unlike the Huawei 5G CPE Pro and the predecessor models such as ZTE MF275R, there is no connector for external antenna. So if you are located at somewhere with weak signal, ZTE MC801 may not be a good option because it can’t provide the possibility to connect external 4G or 5G antennas.

The two 5G WiFi CPEs both use NANO SIM cards. And the SIM card slots are located at the bottom of the router with the reset button. At the side of the SIM Card slot, the model number, IMEI number, WLAN name/SSID, WiFi key and IP log in address are listed. The difference is that ZTE MC801 tells the two WLAN SSID names for 2.4GHz and 5GHz, and ZTE MC801 tells the IP log in password (not admin as 4G WiFi routers). Huawei 5G CPE Pro don’t tell the IP log in password because it will be same as the WiFi connection password, which needs to be set up by the users. At the beginning, the WLAN network of the Huawei 5G CPE is open.

Summary

From the table, we can see they have different chipsets which deceide they support different network mode: Huawei 5G CPE Pro support 5G NR dual mode: NSA/SA while ZTE MC801 supports only NSA mode. Huawei 5G CPE Pro has two variant models now, while ZTE MC801 has only one model now. Perhaps there will be more variant models available in near future.

Huawei 5G CPE Pro has two connectors like other Huawei 4G WiFi Routers, but ZTE MC801 doesn’t provide the connector for external antenna, which is not good for many users. Per our experience, many of 4G router users may need external antenna to get better signal and faster surfing speeds.

They both provide the WiFi 6 and this would be the mainstream for 5G wireless devices. Huawei 5G CPE Pro provide the APP management option by Huawei SmartHome APP, however, ZTE MC801 has no this option. According to our check, ZTE MC801 settings can only be done through a browser. And it provides PC and Mobile settings option, which means, users can do the setup through web browser from a cell phone.

The ZTE MC801 price is higher than that of Huawei 5G CPE Pro, perhaps because the Qualcomm chipset is more expensive than Huawei Balong chipset. One thing we have to mention is that the ZTE MC801 is much heavier than Huawei 5G CPE Pro. We suppose this is due to the complex heat radiation system in the router.

Regarding the real performance of surfing speeds, we will take future test in near future.

Huawei Released New 5G Mobile WiFi Hotspot E6878

A few days ago, Huawei also launched the 5G mobile WiFi hotspots in the model number of Huawei E6878, which will be available for 5G networks in China next month in addition to new 5G mobile phone.

As introduced by Huawei, the Huawei 5G moible WiFi is world’s first 5G dual-mode mobile WiFi hotspot. And the series have two models: one is the standard version and the other is Pro version. They got the official name Huawei 5G Mobile WiFi(Model Number: E6878-870) and Huawei 5G mobile WiFi Pro (Model Number: E6878-370). There are two colors for the 5G mobile routers: White and Black.

They are both with built-in Balong 5000 chipset, which can convert 5G signals into high-speed WiFi, allowing non-5G mobile phones, tablets, laptops, etc. to enjoy high speed. They can support 5G NSA/SA dual mode. Type-C connection speed can reaches 1.65Gbp, and WiFi connection peak speed can reach 867Mbps.

The Huawei 5G mobile WiFi has battery capacity of 4000mAh while the Huawei 5G mobile WiFi Pro version is with built-in large capacity battery of 8000mAh, and supports 40W Huawei super fast charge, 22.5W external wired charging and 15W reverse charging.

The Huawei 5G WiFi routers support AI high-speed rail mode, and the communication algorithm integrates AI technology to intelligently predict and switch better signals along the high-speed rail in advance to ensure signal stability. In addition, when the cell phone connects with Huawei 5G mobile WiFi hotspot, and the mobile phone game mode can be automatically turned on during the game, which significantly reduces the delay of the mobile game up to 30%.

The two Huawei 5G Mobile WiFi hotspots supports 4K 60FPS HD live broadcast, supports multi-channel upload aggregation technology, and 2-3 Huawei 5G mobile WiFi overlays, enjoying faster upload speed.

Huawei 5G mobile WiFi routers support cross-operating system transfer large files without loss and zero data consumption. Whether it is a mobile phone, a tablet or a laptop, it can be mutually transmitted under the same LAN.

To connect with the Huawei 5G mobile WiFi, it does not require a password, so you can go online. Scan the QR code generated on the screen in real time to quickly connect to Huawei 5G WiFi hotspots.

Finally, Huawei also pointed out that the 5G mobile WiFi hotspots can support mainstream 5G and 4G networks in 150+ countries or regions around the world. So it would be a global 5G pocket WiFi router for worldwide use. Unfortunately, Huawei only said that 5G MiFis will be available in December, but the price has not been announced.

Huawei Mate X 5G Hand On

As early as February 2019, Huawei has released the first folding smartphone – Huawei Mate X. The global market launch continues to be delayed. The news shows Huawei Mate X would be available in China at the end of 2019. Luckily, we have the opportunity to get the Huawei Mate X in hand and you will read the details in this post.

If you didn’t know this phone, the Huawei Mate X is not immediately recognizable as a folding smartphone. Rather, the stately size in the closed state catches the eye. The Mate X is relatively wide so the people with big hands would hold it in one hand easily.

The workmanship is very good, but the device does not feel as high-quality as the other premium smartphones due to the flexible plastic-protected display.

The Huawei Mate X is relatively flat even when closed, it is then really thin when opened. Nevertheless, it is stable and the display back is quite high quality.

To open the display, a button on the back is pressed. It is slightly below the three cameras. The button has a good pressure point and “kicks” the display slightly outwards, you then have to unfold it yourself.

Folding feels a bit stiff at first, but this makes the device very stable. The mechanism leaves the impression that it can withstand many folding operations.

The display itself is very nice. It is very bright if desired, colors are AMOLED typical gaudy and the resolution is sufficiently high. In the unfolded status, only a very weak “fold” in the display cover is visible, which is more pronounced in competition model Samsung Galaxy Fold 5G.

The Huawei Mate X will be sold as a 5G smartphone. At the first speed tests in Sunrise’s 5G network , the device reached speeds of around 1 GBit/s in the downlink and up to 150 MBit/s in the uplink at the trade fair stand. A HiSilicon Balong 5000 5G modem developed by Huawei, is used.

The other 4G, 3G and 2G mobile technologies are handled by the Kirin 990 SoC, which is also used in the Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G. Originally the Mate X should still come with the predecessor chipset Kirin 980 on the market.

Incidentally, Google apps were not installed on the test device on display, which is probably one of the reasons why Huawei has not provided any further information on a possible launch in Europe.  Perhaps due to the limit policy from Google, some other Huawei 5G smartphones also don’t have Google apps or service. We would take further test once we get this phone.

Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G Smartphone Review

The Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi, bring his new 5G smartphones to the customer: Mi 9 Pro 5G. Comparing with the predecessor Xiaomi Mi 9, the new smartphone supports the new 5G mobile communications standard and also brings some interesting functions with it.

New 5G smartphone

The Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G is not the first 5G cell phone from Xiaomi. The first 5G cell phone is Xiaomi Mix 3 5G. Of course, the device also works in older mobile standards such as LTE and 3G. As introduced, Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G is to sport 30W Super Fast Wireless Charging technology. The device has already received TENAA certification which revealed some key specifications. The Mi Pro 5G cell phone will have a 6.39-inch display while running on Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC. The phone will feature up to 12GB RAM with up to 512GB internal storage along with a 4,000mAh battery.

Super Charge 30W Wireless Technology

Especially interesting is the charging function. The new Xiaomi 5G phone is the first smartphone that can be charged with 30 watts. The highlight of this event was Xiaomi’s Mi Charge Turbo technology, of course. Xiaomi claims that Mi Charge Turbo is the world’s first 30W wireless charging solution. With this, users can wirelessly charge a 4,000mAh battery phone from 0% to 50% in just 25 minutes, and up to 100% in just 70 minutes. This pitches the wireless charging solution to be higher than a lot of current generation wired charging solutions. The specifics of the working of this technology are not very clear at this stage since the presentation and source are in Chinese. Thus, the device is expected to be one of the fastest charged smartphones in the market despite large 4,000 mAh battery. In addition to wirelessly charging the smartphone, it can also charge other devices.

So far, it was only possible to buy the smartphones and other devices of the bustling manufacturer on gray imports or Chinese online shops. But the company wants to change that soon. Because it has announced that it intends to distribute its smartphones on many other markets officially.

Mi 9 Pro 5G Availability and Price

Xiaomi has not shared any launch and available details about the Mi Pro 5G. But a recent leak indicates that the company is pretty close to launching the smartphone. And the Xiaomi Mi 9 pro 5G price is not yet known, but considering Xiaomi style, it’s expected to be better than Huawei 5G smartphone Mate 20 X 5G and ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G.

Huawei Mate X Foldable Smartphone Will Be Presented at MWC2019

A couple of days ago, Samsung presented its world’s foldable smartphone named Galaxy Fold, which soon attracts the focus. After the bezel-less display design, there is a high chance that foldable phone is going to be the next significant trend in the smartphone world. Previously, there was a report suggesting that many brands are now in the development phase for their first ever foldable device. Huawei, the world’s third largest smartphone supplier, will release its first foldable phone and named it Huawei Mate X, which was leaked by the banner for Huawei show at MWC2019.

Huawei Mate X Specs and Features

Per the leaked information, we can see the Huawei Mate X specs includes two 5.9-inch IPS LCD screens with the resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. Moreover, the Huawei device also opens up like a book and lets you use it on both tablet mode and smartphone mode. Additionally, the Huawei flagship comes with a notch on the display and metal back panel.

As per the concept, Huawei Mate X phone will sport two separate displays. One of the screens will measure 5-inches, while the other will be 8-inches in size both of which will be supporting HDR 10. When folded, we will get to use the 5-inch display, which otherwise looks like any other smartphone. But when unfolded the screen size goes to 8-inches featuring a 4K display and will be perfect as a tablet.

On the other hand, there is also another idea developed but in the laptop mode with a 120-degree fold. If a smartphone is designed in this way, it can be literally used as a regular laptop. And with half of the fold, the Huawei foldable phone can be used as a fully functional keyboard, while the rest will be used as a display. In addition, the device’s user interface will also be changed like the desktop UI, so that it can give laptop-like experience to the users. Apart from this, the device will get a sleek design that combines both metal and glass of approximately 7.5-inch total thickness. Moreover, the device will also feature IP68 water and dust resistant.

Huawei Mate X is based on Hisilicon Kirin 980 chipset and offer 6GB RAM and 512GB ROM for storage. Huawei Mate X camera expects to get a dual: 12 MP (f/1.6) +20 MP (f/1.6) rear snapper. Other features should include Geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, panorama, and HDR. On the front, there is also an 8MP selfie shooter. In term of the battery, this Huawei phone rocks a non-removable Li-Po 4000mAh battery. Lastly, Huawei Mate X is going to run on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo with EMUI 9.0 on top.

Huawei Mate X Release Date and Price

According to our information, Huawei Mate X would be open for sale in the first quarter of 2019. Regarding the price, we suppose the Mate X foldable phone would refer to Samsung Galaxy Fold and would not be cheap at the beginning. Samsung offer the Galaxy Fold at 1980$, we suppose the Mate X price would be around 1500$ or more.

Samsung Presents Galaxy S10 in 5G Version

Yesterday, Samsung has also introduced a 5G version of the S10 series in addition to the Galaxy S10, the Galaxy S10+ and the Galaxy S10e: the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G. The 5G Galaxy S10 is one of the world’s first 5G phones and is technically based on the Galaxy S10+. As soon as the first commercial 5G networks are launched, Samsung wants to be able to deliver the right device with the Galaxy S10 5G.

5G modem from Samsung or Qualcomm

Depending on the region in which the Galaxy S10 5G is delivered, Samsung uses either a 5G modem from themselves or Qualcomm. In North America, the Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 modem will be used, in the remaining regions such as Asia and Europe, the Samsung Exynos 5100 modem. In 5G operation, both the C-band (frequency range between 3.4 and 3.8 gigahertz) and the millimeter-wave range between 26 and 28 GHz are supported. Standalone 5G cannot use the Galaxy S10 5G, it only supports non-standalone (NSA) 5G.

Both modems are so-called multimode modems and allow 5G connections as well as 2G, 3G and 4G networks. In 4G LTE networks, speeds of up to 2 gigabits per second are supported in the download and 150 MBit/s in the upload via LTE Cat20.

High-end 5G Smartphone

The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G is technically very similar to the Galaxy S10+, but comes with a slightly larger 6.7-inch display. The resolution is 1440 x 3040 pixels identical to the S10+. Another difference is with the cameras. The S10+ has a fourth camera with a so-called “Time of Flight” functionality and additionally allows a “Multi Level Bokeh Effect”. In addition, the camera allows the measurement of objects.

Like the other Galaxy S10 models, the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G supports WLAN 802.11ax, also known as WLAN 6, also supports up to 1.2 gigabits per second in the downlink and uplink. The internal memory is 256 gigabytes in size and, unlike the other Galaxy S10 models, it cannot be expanded by memory card. The RAM is 8 GB in size.

Availability and Price

As Samsung officially announced, the Galaxy S10 5G will be launched in the summer of 2019 in Europe but earlier in Asia. Prices and an exact availability date are not yet available. According to Samsung, the following providers want to introduce the S10 5G in their product contract:

  • Deutsche Telekom
  • EE
  • orange
  • Sunrise
  • Swisscom
  • TIM
  • Telefonica
  • Vodafone
