Huawei Hilink CarFi E8377 LTE Hotspot for a Car

We all know Huawei mobile WiFi hotspot are dominating the mobile world for wireless networking. Now, Huawei introduced a mobile hotspot HiLink Carfì (E8377) for the car, which is operated directly by the cigarette lighter. The small adapter supports LTE Category 4 and enables downloads at up to 150 Mbit/s and uploads of up to 50 Mbit/s through only a valid SIM card. Up to ten devices can connect to the HiLink Carfì and get access to the Internet. The network, which builds from the adapter, can protect what should provide the necessary security in the wireless network via WEP, WPA or WPA2.

The HiLink Carfì for the car draws its power from the cigarette lighter. Alternatively, it has a 1900 mAh built-in battery. The device consumes less than 20 watts, according to Huawei and should therefore be energy efficient and hardly pollute the car battery. In addition, the HiLink Carfì has a USB port, allowing it in to charge other devices such as smartphones or tablets while driving. An integrated protective function should ensure the regulation of the temperature of the adapter and so prevent overheating.

The Huawei E8377 CarFi can be operated on ‘Mobile WiFi’ app, available for both Android and iOS. The configuration can be done via this application. The stick has dimensions of 59 x 49 x 88 millimeters and weighs less than 50 grams. According to the manufacturer, the adapter material for the car is made by such as carbon fiber or wood.

At Mobile World Congress, which takes place in Barcelona from 2nd to 5th March 2015, Huawei had presented the HiLink Carfì to public. It’s a big demand for the cars to get access to internet and with other devices. Huawei had seen this demand and the Huawei CarFi is created. Huawei has set the retail price on the HiLink Carfì. What’s the Difference between Huawei E5787 and E5786?

A few weeks ago, Huawei’s first 4G mobile hotspot with touch screen is available in Saudi Arabia. The name is Huawei Mobile WiFi Touch, and model number is E5787, which is the second LTE Cat6 mobile pocket router from Huawei. Appearance

The body of E5787 and E5786 looks similar, but it’s no doubt that the touch screen of Huawei E5787 is a big selling point. In the predecessors of Huawei E5 series mobile WiFi, there is not a mobile router which has a 2.4inch touch acreen like E5787. The E5786 has a small screen only to show the connection status. Chipset

A few weeks ago, a new mobile LTE router from Huawei is available, the model name is Huawei E5787 Mobile WiFi Touch, which is the direct successor of the popular Huawei E5786 from the year 2014 and it’s the first Huawei hotspot with touchscreen operation. The E5787 Mobile WiFi Router provides LTE Cat6 with speeds of up to 300 Mbit/s in the downlink and up to 50 Mbit/s in the uplink. LTE Cat6 and touchscreen

Technically, there is no big surprise in the Huawei E5787. The modem comes from Huawei subsidiary HiSilicon and supports LTE Category 6 with up to 300 MBit/s in the downlink and up to 50 Mbit/s in the uplink. The strong battery is 3,000 mAh and makes Huawei E5787 for an operating time of up to 12 hours. At the side of the unit, there is a USB port for charging the E5787 and for use to work as a wired modem. In addition, there are two connections for an external LTE antenna. The WiFi connection to devices such as laptops or tablets is via Dual Band WLAN ac (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz).

The operation of Huawei E5787 is carried out via a touchscreen for the first time at a Huawei Hotspot. The display is 2.4 inches in size and occupies a large part of the front. The software seems to run fast and fluent. Huawei E5787 versus E5786

As the predecessor of the Huawei E5787, Huawei E5786 is still the best available model from Huawei. Although Huawei E5786 MiFi now is already more than 2 years old (our test from the year 2014), it has almost the same features as the E5787 technically; the biggest difference is actually the touchscreen. In the LTE speed and the WLAN, both devices are identical.

Some improvements can be found at E5787 in detail: the battery is now removable and it can use not only normal Micro SIM cards with appropriate adapter but also nano SIM cards. Also, the Cortex A9 used processor is faster. Presumably, the new processor is necessary primarily due to the power-hungry displays and the more complex operating system. Overall, the Huawei E5787 MiFi is certainly the better choice comparely, but the huawei E5786 is still a very good hotspot.

The Huawei E5787 is initially available only in Saudi Arabia. It’s offered 3 colors: silver, gold and black. They provide more options for user’s color preference. Today, we present you one of the smallest mobile hotspots from Bouygues Telecom, the Huawei E5577s–321, we will say E5577 instead in the article below.

The Huawei E5577 is a little smaller than its big brother the Huawei E5786 (4G+), a bit thicker than its little brother the Huawei E5372 (4G), the E5577 is distinguished by the gray color of its edge, but it looks very similar to the other huawei hotspots. The body is in black or white, made of plastic. The E5577 is very slim and it fits in your hand or your pocket. But it’s a pity that Huawei did not set a hole for a strap in the body.

But what can the Huawei E5577 do for users? It can be a good partner in below the situations:

Work as theWiFi hotspot: take the air 3G/4G around you to turn on Wi-Fi, so you can connect up to 10 devices. This is the classic feature “hotspot”, when you’re in the middle of somewhere and under 3G/4G network coverage.

For the Wi-Fi you have the choice between 2.4GHz (classical, old, but a little crowded) or 5GHz (later, to book in for more powerful). You choose according to the devices you want to connect.

First surprise unpacking: Huawei E5577 battery is huge and removable, almost twice as thick as that of the E5372! The listed capacity is 3000mAH, against 1.780mAH for the E5372, and is likely to last, according to the mobile network used, 400 or 600 hours standby and up to 12 hours of continuous use. This is a Lithium-ion polymer. In practice, 12 hours are for use 4G (with one machine connected).

Second pleasant surprise: unlike the interface in the E5372, Huawei E5577 offers that of a connection interface with a login/password. We can change the password at the earliest to avoid problems.

Third pleasant surprise: the connection statistics and appliance consumption are there! A special section of the interface allows you to monitor what’s going on, connected, and for how long. If you are not happy to see such a machine, you can block it by its MAC address. It is also cool to set its “data plan” for the monthly statistics. That’s useful, and it was sorely lacking on the E5372!

And fourth major positive surprise: the E5577 seems to better capture the mobile network than its predecessor the Huawei E5372. E5577 is much more stable when it changes place. In all cases, the difference is very clear: the connection is stable, we can walk with little fear of losing the network.

In my test, I got 4G 3 bars, 50Mbps downlink (4G) indoor and 30Mbps upstream, almost as well as the E5786 4G+ in the same place. With an external antenna (MIMO 2×2), which plugs into two small TS-9 ports under a small hatch on the front edge, it will reach comfortable DL 70Mbps/UL 30Mbps. This is a feature common to all the Huawei hotspots models I tested.

Other features

The function WPS(with PIN), which allows to connect to the hotspot without entering the security key is present.

The micro SD card is classically now available on connected devices that can download or upload files on the storage card (the SD card is not supplied). We can watch a movie stored on the hotspot from their smartphone, or listen to music. The data exchanged over the LAN obviously not count against the quota of “mobile data”, as they are traded in Wi-Fi.

The E5577 is not simlock. That’s fine, we can compare the performance of mobile networks.

The battery indicator: 4 bars, so 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%, and the empty indicator that flashes when it recharge, rather than a specific percentage, I mean. It always shocks me to go from 25% to 0% without going through the box 15%, which is the moment you should recharge the battery.

The inability to change the login name “administrator” and it will remain “admin”.

The selection of network parameters (2G, 3G, LTE) and Network Mode (Auto/Manual), less intuitive and less accurate than previous models which can only shoot 4G (LTE), you can not choose 2G or 3G.

The E5577 hotspot IP is 192.168.1.1: The E5372 and E5786 were 192.168.8.1, fortunately, you can easily change this address.

The PIN entry screen, which always encourages box “Remember PIN” … thus disabling the PIN code request in the next ignition or next connecting a guest.We would like a safer screen.

In summary, the Huawei E5577 is a more complete version of the E5372: it has the same features – and even more, its interface is more complete, the data connection is more efficient and Wi-Fi connection faster. With a large battery capacity, it goes for a long session of work or leisure. With slim pocket size, Huawei E5577 is a good mobile router.

Following the Huawei E5 classic design, Huawei E5577 looks like the predecessor models such as E5776, E5372, E5377. The E5577 LTE MiFi is in white or black color. The Huawei E5577 looks smarter than its predecessors, perhaps because it becomes thinner. The body material is made of plastic but touch feel good. On the front, there is Huawei logo and power button which are located at the two sides of the 1.45 TFT LCD screen. After the SIM card and battery is inserted in the E5577 LTE MiFi, press the power button on the front and the E5577 will fast boot in seconds. Huawei E5577 is still using standard 6-pin SIM card. Usually, the device will automatically configure and connect to network in a couple of minutes. But the E5577 will not do that, user need setup the router manually. You can log in the Huawei Mobile WiFI APP though smartphone or via web browser in PC to do that.

Alcatel Y900 One Touch 4G+ LTE Cat6 Hotspot

Alcatel has unveiled a compact LTE Cat6 hotspot– the Alcatel One Touch Link 4G+ Y900 at MWC in February 2015. Now, the machine is finally available in stores after 9 months. As we had introduced before, the similar model Huawei E5786 has similar feature as Alcatel Y900. However, there is no display and connections for an external antenna in the Y900. In this article, you could see the full review about our test for Alcatel One Touch Link 4G+.

The Alcatel Link Y900 comes in a small cardboard box. In the box, there is a power supply for charging Alcatel Y900. The unit is supplied only with a USB cable, which can then be converted in conjunction with a standard USB power adapter for full charger. Alternatively, the router could also charge through the USB port from a computer or notebook.

The first impression of the Alcatel Y900: the router is equipped with 89 x 62 x 11.5 millimeters and a weight of only 88 grams including the battery. The build quality is good, the back cover on the battery is secure and can be removed quickly in order to insert the SIM card and optional memory card. Alcatel One Touch Link 4G+ Y900 has two colors: dark gray or white.

The operation is carried out via a web interface in the browser, as it is known by virtually every other router models. Alternatively, there is also an application for iOS and Android, so you can control the Y900 hotspot over an app. This works reliably, because the software is easy to understand and react quickly. A special praise has earned by Alcatel for the design, app and web interface look fresh and the functions can be easily distinguished from each other by different colors. This new software is already available from Alcatel Y858 for several months.

In the Web interface, you can see statistics such as online time and data volume consumed for use. In the settings, the wireless connection can be configured to change the password or modify the wireless network name. Also the settings for cellular connection can be done; usually, this is not necessary since the Alcatel Y900 automatically recognizes the network provider based on the inserted SIM card and the configuration performs automatically.

The Alcatel Y900 4G+ is based on a modern chipset with support for LTE category 6, so that up to 300 MBit/s in the downlink and up to 50 Mbit/s can be achieved in the uplink. Of course, the Alcatel Y900 is also backwards compatible with UMTS (up to 42.2 Mbit/s) and GSM including EDGE. In the test at 1800 and 2600 MHz (Carrier Aggregation was active), I reached up to 180 MBit/s in the downlink, which is at least already times faster than LTE Cat4 (up to 150 Mbit/s).

The reception and transmission performance of the Alcatel Y900 is good. But if you are at location of low signal strength, you’d probably want an external antenna. Unfortunately, there are no connections for such an external antenna, probably due to cost.

The Alcatel Y900 runs WLAN 802.11a/b/g/n/ac at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Up to 32 users can be connected to the router simultaneously, which already has a huge advantage in comparison with other mobile hotspots, because in other devices, a maximum of 8 to 15 users can be provided an Internet connection at the same time. The competitor Huawei E5786 has the function to work as a wireless extender but the Alcatel Y900 can not offer this. Even with the safety, the manufacturer Alcatel provides the Y900 hotspot from the factory without wireless encryption, so you should establish immediately a password so that no strangers can go online via the router.

The battery has a capacity of about 1,800 mAh and thus provides a runtime of about 5 hours. This is not particularly good, but the battery is removable, you can easily add a second or third battery and thus extend the duration accordingly. According to Alcatel, there is a version available with even a 3,600 mAh capacity. However, it seems not yet been available and of course you need a new cover for the back because the battery with 3600 mAh is likely to be considerably thicker than the original.

But if you simply looking for a fast and future-proof mobile LTE hotspot, Alcatel Y900 would never make you disappointed.

More and more huawei new 4G models are available now. We get the latest Huawei E5573 4G mobile hotspot for speeds of up to 150 MBit/s in the LTE network. Huawei E5573 has a removable battery of 1500mAh, and the operating time is about 6 hours. Of course you can also charge the hotspot during use and thus extend the working time.
