Huawei 5G Mobile WiFi E6878-870 VS E6878-370

Huawei 5G Mobile WiFi E6878-870 Review

A few months ago, Huawei released the newest 5G portable WiFi router in China and huawei online store starts to sell this new mobile 5G hotspot. We got the new Huawei 5G Pocket WiFi yesterday and let’s have a close look at the new 5G gadget.

Huawei 5G Mobile WiFi E6878-870 Package

The Huawei 5G mobile WiFi hotspot is packed in a white box, which is similar to many Huawei devices such as Huawei 4G WiFi router, WiFi extender. Since it’s released for China market, the language in the box is Chinese, so as the user manual. In our test, there are two languages available in the web UI. On the front, the Huawei 5G mobile WiFi image is printed in white color with black face.

On the side label, it tells the product type: 5G wireless data terminal and model number: E6878-870. And the network standard, network entrance number, color, IMEI & S/N numbers are included.

Huawei 5G Mobile WiFi E6878-870 Appearance

The Huawei E6878-870 is in white and black color as showed below. On the front, there is a small LED screen which will show the connection status and other parameters. Unlike the predecessor model Huawei E5788u-96a, the Huawei 5G WiFi router can’t operate the setting through the display. The Huawei and 5G logos are on the front black. The power button and SIM card slot is at the edge side. Between them, there is a switch button, where user and press to switch the menus on the display to do simple settings. On the back, there is a small label showing the IMEI number and S/N number.

If you are unfamiliar with this new 5G pocket WiFi, you may thought it’s a new cell phone at first glance. The size of Huawei E6878 5G MiFi is much bigger than the predecessors, and it weights much like the Netgear Nighthawk M2 MR2100. The USB port is Type 3.0. There is no connector for external antenna. And it also has the Ethernet port like the Huawei E5885 Mobile WiFi hotspot.

Huawei 5G Mobile WiFi E6878-870 Operation

Press the power on, the display of Huawei 5G portable router E6878 will show the slogan: welcome to 5G. It will also tell users to log in the 192.168.8.1 in a browser to configure the Huawei 5G mobile router. However, the default language is Chinese. To switch to Engligh, users need to log in the 192.168.8.1 in a browser. At the right head of the web page, there are two languages optional. You can select English as preferred language. Then you can follow the guide to setup the Huawei mobile 5G router.

As mentioned before, users can setup the Huawei 5G pocket WiFi router through the power button and switch button at the edge side. When the Huawei E6878 MiFi working, press the power button, it will show the menu. The switch button is the function of Next and the power button is the function of Confirm.

Huawei 5G Mobile WiFi E6878-870 Price

Since the Huawei E6878 5G mobile WiFi Hotspot is new and recently available, the price is not cheap now. But we suppose the price would be down from 2020 when more and more competitors’ 5G mobile router will be available.

We will take further test in following days and we will share our test report later.

Huawei FreeBuds 3 Test

There were very few wireless headphones with ANC on the market. Here comes a new headphone from Huawei: Huawei FreeBuds 3. Somebody may ask: what is ANC? ANC stands for Active Noise Cancellation or Active Noise Canceling. This is an attempt to suppress ambient noise with the help of sound.

Huawei FreeBuds: ANC with open design

Huawei has opted for an open design, the FreeBuds 3 feel in principle like normal AirPods from Apple. The difference is only that the color is in black. We think Apple may bring a black version from 2020. The FreeBuds 3 is just as well as AirPods in my ear. By the way, the pairing is quite fast and if you own a Huawei smartphone, then it is similar to the AirPods. Then the FreeBuds 3 are also automatically connected to other Huawei models, such as a tablet.

For Android users, there is the app “Huawei AI Life”, with which you can fix a few things in the FreeBuds 3. For example, the ANC, you can install updates and change the commands (controlled by double-tapping the page). This app is not available for iOS, but should be available later.

The case also feels like the AirPods, but is round. I think it’s nice and compact and it’s good for your pocket. The FreeBuds 3 have a good grip in the case and are easy to remove. You can charge either via Qi (wireless charging) or the standard USB C.

Huawei FreeBuds 3: How good is ANC?

Let’s get to the point that probably interests most: The sound is good and in this class “standard”, how does this design work with ANC? I must confess that this did not work well for me. I heard some noise with active ANC and the ambient noise was rather moderately isolated. For me the headphone does not completely shut off. It is therefore almost impossible to isolate all ambient noise, if the design still has an opening.

According to Huawei, the battery life is at 4 hours for playing music, 2.5 hous for voice talk, and 13 hours for standby. The battery of 410mAh is really not better than other similar earphones.

If you consider the Huawei FreeBuds 3 as a copy of the AirPods for Android, you could get an interesting product here. It’s also in black, with Qi, USB C and just an app for Android, which brings a few options.

But I also have to say that it did not work out so well for me with the ANC. There were moments when sounds could be isolated a bit, but I have just tested all three other in-ear models with ANC, and compared to these the FreeBuds 3 didn’t show better performance than them.

As an iPhone user you should rather choose the AirPods, because you get the benefits of Apple, the one with the ANC can be ignored in my opinion. The FreeBuds 3 could be a good alternative for Android users.

I was really looking forward to the Huawei FreeBuds 3 and as a fan of the normal AirPods (which I still use despite AirPods Pro), I was basically satisfied in everyday life. Even as an iPhone user you can use it conveniently.

Only with the active noise cancellation is just such a thing, with me ANC has not worked really well in everyday life. It was rustling and I got too much of my surroundings. Therefore, I would recommend anyone who really wants to use ANC, the in-ear design as an alternative.

5G FritzBox: 3G to 5G on board

The flagship of the new FRITZ! Box 6850 5G is of course the support of 5G with sub-6 GHz . This allows bandwidths of more than 2 Gbit/s and low latencies. But also the older mobile radio standards LTE (4G) with the bands 1, 3, 7, 8, 20, 28 and 32 as well as UMTS (3G) are supported. For better reception, two SMA connectors are provided for connecting external antennas.

With the mobile networks, the 5G WiFi router allows further access to the Internet in addition to the classic DSL connection, where this new FRITZ! Box can of course also be connected. So it’s an all-in-one device that supports both mobile and fixed internet. In principle, it is similar to its predecessor, the 6890 LTE, since hybrid operation was also possible here.

WLAN with up to 1266 MBit/s

If there is a connection to the Internet, the FRITZ! Box 6850 5G with 4 x 4 MIMO, working with the Qualcomm SD X55 chipset, charges a WLAN. It supports dual band WLAN AC + N with 2.4 and 5 GHz including mesh. This allows transmission speeds of up to 1266 Mbps. In addition, four Gigabit LAN ports are available for connecting wired network devices.

5G router and telephone system in one

Of course, the AVM 5G router function includes that of a telephone system. This is no different with the new FRITZ! Box 6850 5G. It has a DECT base integrated so that up to six cordless DECT phones can be connected to it. In addition, it also offers a connection for an analog telephone or fax.

It is also interesting that the FRITZ! Box 6850 5G can be used as a smart home center. AVM offers a range of compatible products such as smart sockets, light bulbs and more that communicate with DECT radio. In addition, the FRITZ! Box 6850 5G also supports the typical features of AVM such as parental control, media server, FRITZ! NAS, WLAN guest access, MyFRITZ! and much more. The well-known remote access is also given at the 5G / LTE connection.

Market launch in early 2020

The market launch is only announced for the first quarter of 2020. The price is then also communicated, so we currently cannot know a price for the FRITZ! Box 6850 5G. However, this is likely to increase 20-30 percent above today’s 6890.

Huawei Released New 5G Mobile WiFi Hotspot E6878

A few days ago, Huawei also launched the 5G mobile WiFi hotspots in the model number of Huawei E6878, which will be available for 5G networks in China next month in addition to new 5G mobile phone.

As introduced by Huawei, the Huawei 5G moible WiFi is world’s first 5G dual-mode mobile WiFi hotspot. And the series have two models: one is the standard version and the other is Pro version. They got the official name Huawei 5G Mobile WiFi(Model Number: E6878-870) and Huawei 5G mobile WiFi Pro (Model Number: E6878-370). There are two colors for the 5G mobile routers: White and Black.

They are both with built-in Balong 5000 chipset, which can convert 5G signals into high-speed WiFi, allowing non-5G mobile phones, tablets, laptops, etc. to enjoy high speed. They can support 5G NSA/SA dual mode. Type-C connection speed can reaches 1.65Gbp, and WiFi connection peak speed can reach 867Mbps.
