Huawei Released a New 5G Router – 5G CPE Pro 2

A couple of days ago, Huawei launched Huawei 5G CPE Pro 2 – the next generation of smart router in the 5G Series Huawei CPE Pro. The new router supports a variety of 5G frequency bands, which is more than any other similar 5G router on the market. The router offers innovative 5G Super Uplink technology and Wi-Fi 6 standard and has been designed with a compact design that is 30 percent smaller than its predecessors Huawei 5G CPE Pro. The unit’s features are a breakthrough for the market and are expected to have further impact on, for example, mobile broadband, HD live broadcasting, video conferencing and telemedicine.

Huawei 5G CPE Pro 2 Specifications

The HUAWEI 5G CPE Pro 2 carries the cutting-edge 7 nm Balong 5000 chipset that comes with dramatically enhanced capabilities, and offers support for both 5G NSA and 5G SA networking. The Balong 5000 is the first chipset in its series to support 200 MHz bandwidth and carrier aggregation technology, doubling theoretical 5G peak download speed over that on the first-gen CPE Pro, to a staggering 3.6 Gbps.

In addition to inheriting the four 5G TDD frequency bands (n41 / n77 / n78 / n79) which are already supported by the first-gen CPE Pro, the Huawei CPE Pro 2 has added support for seven more 5G FDD frequency bands (n1 / n3 / N5 / N7 / N28 / N38 / N40). This expanded range transcends the capabilities of other 5G devices, fully meeting the needs of global operators.

Up to this point, 5G coverage has been hampered by an inherent flaw. Although the TDD bands provide for fast connections, their coverage area is rather small. Conversely, FDD bands feature broad coverage, but low bandwidth and thus limited speeds. As a remedy, Huawei has developed its “5G Super Uplink” technology. 5G Super Uplink fully leverages the advantages of TDD and FDD, which are complementary to each other in high and low frequencies, as well as time and frequency domains, boosting uplink speed and coverage to new and unforeseen heights. Therefore, services that are highly dependent on uplink performance, such as HD live broadcasting, telemedicine, and video conferencing, are expected to receive a shot in the arm with the widespread rollout of 5G Super Uplink technology.

Huawei 5G CPE Pro 2 – Supporting WiFi-6+ technology

The HUAWEI 5G CPE is fully compliant with the latest Wi-Fi 6 standard, which is tailored to facilitate optimal 5G high coverage. The HUAWEI 5G CPE Pro 2 is capable of connecting with up to 128 devices, and supports MU-MIMO technology and concurrent transmission with multiple devices, as well as exclusive dynamic narrow bandwidth technology that can bolster a Wi-Fi 6-supported Huawei mobile phone with scorching data speeds and broadened Wi-Fi coverage.

The HUAWEI 5G CPE Pro 2, which is one third smaller than its predecessor, adopts new silent cooling fans that are capable of dynamically adjusting their operating speed to account for the current temperature. Running at just 30 dB, 10 dB lower than the normal ambient noise level, fans are far quieter as well, while improving cooling efficiency by 50 per cent and reducing the router’s surface temperature by 5 ° C. Reinforced by an effortlessly efficient heat dissipation system, the HUAWEI 5G CPE Pro 2 is equipped to handle the high loads associated with continuous 5G operation.

Huawei 5G CPE Pro 2 Price and availability

Huawei 5G CPE Pro 2 will be available on the market later this spring. Regarding the retail price of Huawei 5G CPE Pro 2, Huawei didn’t announce in the debut. We will update the price once it’s available to buy.

Huawei 5G Mobile WiFi E6878-370 Review

Huawei presented a new mobile 5G routers to the public with the latest 5G smartphone – Huawei Mate 30 5G and Mate 30 Pro 5G. The device with the name Huawei E6878-370 was already announced in early 2019 at the MWC, but apparently Huawei has changed the design again and they look like different models.

The Huawei E6878 is a little bit big and heavy compared to other mobile hotspots, but it’s still easy to hold in one hand. This is probably mainly because the new Huawei 5G WiFi Router has integrated a 8,000 mAh battery. In power-hungry 5G operation, the battery should provide very good battery life.

The Huawei 5G pocket WiFi can also be used as a power bank, but in addition to the USB type C port, a full-size USB port is also available. Even wireless reverse charging is supported by the router.

On the front of the Huawei 5G Mobile WiFi E6878, there is a small display. Unfortunately, the display is very heavily mirrored; in the bright light you could hardly see it. The operation and configuration can also be done via the Huawei Mobile WiFi app or via a browser web interface.

There is a slot for a SIM card and two buttons on the side. Unfortunately, the battery is not replaceable by the user, while the competitor Netgear all mobile router models have standard replaceable batteries. However, the Huawei E6878-370 not only has the fast battery charging function with up to 40W (Super Charge), but also the 8000 mAh strong battery can charge other electronic devices.

The chipset of Huawei E6878-370 5G Mobile WiFi is a HiSilicon Balong 5000. Of course, the 5G modem is backwards compatible with 4G/LTE, 3G/UMTS and 2G/GSM. According to the official sayings, Huawei E6878-370 could achieve download speed up to 1.65Mbps and upload speed up to 250Mbps. This speed is much faster than the speed from the predecessor Huawei E5788, which can already achieve 1 GBit/s downlink.

However, the Internet connection via WiFi 6 is unavailable, which was introduced to be available. Of course, the 5G WiFi router is also backwards compatible with older WLAN standards. Unfortunately, the Huawei E6878 is not equipped with RJ45 Ethernet LAN port, so you have to rely on the USB port, if no Wi-Fi can be used or may.

The Huawei 5G Mobile WiFi Hotspot will be available to buy at the end of 2019 in various global markets. If the 5G networks will not be available in short time at your location, you may check the budget 4G mobile WiFi Huawei E5788.

Huawei 5G CPE Pro Router Review

Chinese network equipment giant Huawei unveiled its first commercial 5G router at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. The device is called “5G CPE Pro” and visually resembles the prototype, which Huawei already presented in 2018 for various 5G live shows.

The Huawei 5G CPE Pro Router is based on the HiSilicon Balong 5000 modem, which is Huawei’s first multimode 5G modem. Multimode means that in addition to 5G, 4G/LTE is supported and so a so-called dual-mode operation is possible. If the 5G reception is not strong enough, the unit will automatically switch to 4G mode so that the connection remains.

According to Huawei, the maximum speed in the 5G network is at 3.2 gigabits per second. The Balong 5000 chipset can bundle up to two 100 MHz wide frequency ranges (2CA). The Huawei 5G CPE Pro Router can handle both the frequency range between 3.4 and 3.8 gigahertz (C-band) and the millimeter-wave range between 26 and 28 gigahertz.

On the front, there are three LEDs and a WPS button for fast Wi-Fi encryption. On the back of the Huawei 5G CPE, there is a power adapter, power button, and SIM card slot at the bottom. Two RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet ports for LAN / WAN are also integrated. The WLAN works both on 2.4 GHz and on 5 GHz, in addition to the WLAN ac standard the new WLAN 6 is supported. In addition, there are two connectors for external 5G antennas(Buy Huawei 5G CPE Pro external antenna). The total design looks very similar to the predecessor Huawei B618s-65d router.

Whether and when the Huawei 5G CPE Pro Router will be launched to the market is unknown. At the MWC, Huawei also shows the 5G CPE Window Router, which uses an outdoor antenna and module, so that a good 5G connection can be guaranteed even in regions with poorer reception conditions.

Huawei Launched Multi-mode 5G Chipset and 5G CPE Pro Router

Huawei officially launched the multi-mode 5G chipset called Balong 5000 and was first used on the Huawei 5G CPE Pro router. The perfect combination of these two products will bring the world’s fastest wireless connection speed not only on smartphones but also for larger spaces like houses, offices and other large spaces.

Balong 5000: Start for the 5G era

The Balong 5000 chipset is expected to help Huawei formally open the era for leading advanced 5G technology. In addition, the Balong 5000 chipset also provides optimal support on a range of other 5G products, such as home broadband network equipment, car-mounted devices and 5G modules. Thus, Balong 5000 will help consumers have the opportunity to experience 5G completely new in many different usage situations.

With a compact design (SFF) and a high level of integration, Balong 5000 supports 2G, 3G, 4G and even 5G on a single chip. This will minimize the latency and power consumption when transferring data between different modes, and significantly improve the user experience in the early stages of 5G deployment. Balong 5000 marked a big step forward for the Balong chipset series.

On the market, Balong 5000 is the first chip for download speed reaching 5G standard. In Sub-6 GHz band (low operating frequency, main frequency used for 5G), Balong 5000 can achieve download speeds up to 4.6 Gbps. In the mmWave spectrum band (high operating frequency, used for extended spectrum for 5G), Balong can achieve download speed of 6.5 Gbps – 10 times faster than the leading 4G LTE router in the current market.

Besides, Balong 5000 is also the first chip in the world to support both independent network architecture (SA) and non-independent (NSA). With a non-independent form, 5G network architecture is built on 4G LTE network platform. Meanwhile, the independent form, as the name suggests, will have its own architecture. Balong 5000 can flexibly meet different requirements from users and operators in connecting equipment throughout the development stages of 5G.

Moreover, Balong 5000 is also the world’s first multi-mode chip that supports the V2X protocol (universal connection method), providing a reliable and low-latency solution for connected media. Huawei’s 5G smartphones using Balong 5000 will be launched at the Global Mobile Exhibition (MWC) in Barcelona this year.

Huawei 5G CPE Pro – Huawei First Commercial 5G Router

Based on the Balong 5000, Huawei 5G CPE Pro router supports both 4G and 5G connections. With 5G network, a 1GB HD video clip can be downloaded in just 3 seconds. 8K format videos can also be played smoothly, without interruption. This set new standards for home CPE equipment. In addition, the Huawei 5G CPE Router can also be used for small and medium enterprises, with fast broadband Internet access speed.

Applying new generation 6 Wi-Fi technology, Huawei 5G CPE Pro router can provides speeds up to 4.8 Gbps. This is the first 5G CPE to support Huawei HiLink protocol, bringing smart home ecosystem (smart home) into the 5G era.
