Connecting to your LTE B618 router’s Wi-Fi network

Once the router has connected to a mobile data network, you can connect your computer or mobile phone to the router’s Wi-Fi network to access the Internet. Please refer to the label on the bottom of the router for the default wireless network name (SSID) and password (Wi-Fi KEY).

Note: 1.) When the Wi-Fi LED indicator is steady on, Wi-Fi is enabled. To enable or disable Wi-Fi, refer to the help section on the router’s web-based management page. 2.) Ensure that you promptly change the Wi-Fi network name and password on the web-based management page to prevent unauthorized access to your Wi-Fi network. Once you have changed the password, you will need to reconnect to the router’s Wi-Fi network.

Configuring your Huawei B618 router

You can configure the router using the web-based management page. Please refer to the label on the bottom of the router for the default IP address, user name, and password. More information can be found in the help section of the web-based management page.

Note: You will be prompted to change the default login password for the web-based management page to prevent unauthorized users from changing the router’s settings.

Optional configurations

Note: The features described in this section are for reference purposes only. Your router may not support all of these features.

  1. Connecting multiple devices You can connect a computer, or landline phone to the router to access the Internet, make telephone calls, and more.
  2. Installing external antennas You can install external antennas to improve signal reception. Please contact your network service provider to purchase the antennas.

Note: Turn off the router and unplug the power adapter before installing any external antennas. External antennas are only suitable for indoor use. Do not use external antennas during thunderstorms. Only use external antennas provided by your network service provider.

  1. Accessing the Internet through an Ethernet port

You can connect the router to a wall-mounted Ethernet port using an Ethernet cable to connect to the Internet when you have used up your data allowance. Configure the relevant settings on the web-based management page before connecting to the Internet through an Ethernet port. More information can be found in the help section of the web-based management page.

Huawei B618S-22D 4G LTE Cat11 WiFi Router

A brand new Huawei LTE router has been launched in Europe and is now available for purchase on www.4gltemall.com . This is Huawei B618s-22d. It is a rather remarkable product in LTE category 11! Yes, you may have read, it allows to reach 600Mbit/s for download and 50Mbit/s for upload theoretically. Of course, you will not be able to reach such bit rates immediately, but this augurs well for the importance that 4G (and later 5G) reception will take by the various wired networks in areas badly covered.

Huawei B618 B618s-22d 4G Router

The Huawei B618s-22d router is in compact design and it resembles its predecessor Huawei E5180 LTE CPE. The dimensions are 9.5cm long, 20.8cm high and 9.5cm thick. Its weight is 700 grams. It supports the 4G+ category 11 on the bands: 1/3/7/8/20/38 (FDD 800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz, TDD 2600MHz). It is therefore almost entirely compatible with all frequencies in Europe and other areas in Asia. But it’s a pity that it does not support the frequency 700MHz(B28).

Huawei B618 B618s-22d 4G Router

The proposed WIFI is a/b/g/n/ac on 2 bands (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz) and supports up to 64 connected devices. (Attention, theoretical data in laboratory, strongly dependent on wall thickness and other parameters.) At the LAN ports, there are 2 RJ45 gigabits and 1 LAN/WAN port. It is possible to connect an external antenna through the 2 TS9 ports. If you want to buy the external 4G/LTE antenna for Huawei B618, we had tested two external antennas for indoor and outdoor use:

4G LTE Outdoor Antenna (2 x TS-9 Connectors) for Huawei/ZTE 4G LTE Dongles/aircards/modems/mobile hotspots

An RJ11 port allows you to connect a phone on it to make calls via the inserted SIM card (Provided you do not force the router only on the 4G so that it can switch to the other frequencies (3G) and your plan not only in data). The VOIP/SIP is available and configured in the web interface. A USB 2.0 port connects a hard drive or printer.

More advanced settings are available as integrated DDNS, integrated VPN client, SMS sending/receiving … The SIM card must be in the MICRO SIM format. It has a multilingual interface that you manage from your computer to configure your network quickly and easily (DHCP, VOIP, FIREWALL, etc.) but is also compatible with the mobile application “Huawei Mobile WiFi” for a configuration via smartphone.

It has an on/off button which is handy to turn it off when you do not use it. Also, a WPS button (to connect wifi easily) and 8 LEDs will let you know the intensity of your 4G reception, WIFI activity, LAN activity, power, etc.

This Huawei B618s-22d is one of Huawei’s latest flagship router. Equipped with the latest technological innovations and in particular the 4G+ (category 11) 600Mbits/s, it will be suitable for those wishing to benefit from the current top LTE network. If you think the price is high, you may get satisfied with the lower level router Huawei B525s-23a or a Huawei B315s-22a that do their job right with almost half the price.

Huawei Presents B618 LTE Cat11 Router

The fourth mobile LTE radio generation is becoming more and more powerful, with LTE Advanced Pro and 4.5G, respectively, currently experiencing a new leap in speed. Some 4G smartphones and mobile hotspots already support LTE category 11 or higher, while LTE Cat6 with 300 MBit/s in LTE router models was the highest of the feelings. A few weeks ago, Huawei presents a new 4G LTE Router with Ethernet port and SIM card slot, the model number is Huawei B618, which supports LTE of category 11 with up to 600 MBit/s in the downlink and 50 MBit/s in the uplink.

Huawei B618 Appearance

The Huawei B618 router visually resembles the design of the Huawei E5180 cube and can therefore be designated as its successor. The device is square and quite “high” built, on the front there are various LEDs as well as a WPS button. On the back there is a power button, two RJ-45 Gigabit LAN ports (one of which can also function as a WAN port), as well as a USB 2.0 port. There is also an RJ-11 connection for an analog telephone or fax machine as well as the connection for the external power supply. Under one cover are two connectors for an external antenna. There is no battery for mobile use.

Huawei B618 WiFi Router Technical Specifications

The modem in the Huawei B618 works with LTE Cat11 and achieves data rates of up to 600 MBit/s in the downlink as well as 50 MBit/s in the uplink. Which LTE Advanced Pro / 4.5G features are supported exactly is still unknown, but in any case, Triple Carrier Aggregation is on board. This allows the Huawei B618 to bundle three different frequency ranges with a maximum of 20 MHz each. To get to 600 MBit/s is enough but not the same, as the 256QAM modulation controls the modem in the downlink. Alternatively, the support for 4 × 4 MIMO would be conceivable whether the B618 can do this, but is currently not clearly identified.

The WLAN module allows connection to up to 64 devices at the same time in the 2.4 GHz and the 5 GHz band. The maximum data rate is 867 Mbps (802.11 ac), the WLAN antennas are fixed in the Huawei B618 and cannot be exchanged.

Until now, the Huawei B618 only appears in Poland at Play (February 2017), where it is marketed in conjunction with the “4G LTE ULTRA” offer. As mobile radio networks continue to grow, however, it is likely that the Huawei B618 LTE router will also find their way to other countries and to other providers, which is often the case with Huawei LTE router models, however, user should pay close attention to the supported features and frequency bands, as Huawei can often optimize the routers for the respective provider and remove individual functions such as the telephone function. The B618 router available model number Huawei B618s-22d in Poland at Play seems to be unbranded and it may be suitable for the other market in Europe as it supports all important LTE band 1, 3, 7, 8, 20.
