ZTE MF971V LTE Cat6 MiFi Review

We had introduced ZTE LTE Cat6 MiFi MF970 last year, actually, ZTE also presented another LTE Cat6 MiFi MF971V and it’s available for many network providers worldwide. ZTE MF971V Appearance

The appearance of ZTE MF971V looks very similar to ZTE MF970 uFi, there is a small LED screen on the front. The ZTE logo is at the left side while the LTE word on the other side. Huawei E5885 VS Netgear Aircard 790s

We had introduced the Huawei Cat6 Pocket WiFi one month ago. As a new 4G+ Cat6 MiFi, Huawei E5885Ls-93a was added to the Cat6 router list. However, there are many similar 4G LTE pocket WiFi in the market. Netgear Aircard 790s is one of the LTE Cat6 MiFi routers. Somebody had asked what the difference is between the Huawei E5885Ls-93a and Netgear AC790S and which one is better to buy. Huawei E5885Ls-93a VS Netgear AC790S Appearance

If you had read our blog about Netgear mobile hotspot, you may know the Netgear Aircard 790s is in a typical design of a Netgear mobile hotspot. Netgear Aircard 790s is the second LTE cat6 mobile router available in the market. Based the predecessor Netgear Aircard 782s, it looks similar to the 782s aircard. Unlike the Huawei E5786, the screen of Aircard 790s is capacitive screen, where user can operate and do simple settings for the mobile hotspot. The power button is on the top side, the bottom side has two connectors for external antenna (TS-9 type). The USB port is also special with 3.0 port, but with the device, Netgear provides the USB 2.0 cable. The back cover could also be removed, so as the battery. The battery capacity is 2930mAh. ZTE UFi MF970

Following the steps of the above two vendors, ZTE released the UFi MF970. It looks common like its predecessor MF910. MF970 was already available for Vodafone 4G contract. The front middle is the screen to indicate the connection status. User can do simple settings through the power and menu button. The power and menu button is on the top side. The back cover can’t be removed, so the battery can’t be changed. And there are also two connectors for external LTE/3G antenna. Like Netgear Aircard 790s, there is no slot for Micro SD card. Also with Qualcomm chipset MDM9230, ZTE UFi MF970 could support up to 14 wireless users. The battery is only 2300mAh, which is much lower than the above two similar hotspots. The design of ZTE MF970 looks cool. Other features are very similar to the competitors above.

Alcatel One Touch Y900

Alcatel One Touch Y900, also called Alcatel Link Y900 4G+, looks special in the appearance. The signal bars on the front side looks cool but are not really interesting. From the table above, the features are very similar except the Chipset and supported WiFi users. Huawei E5786 is based Huawei own brand Hisilicon LTE Cat6 chipset while ZTE Flare is running on Qualcomm latest Gob 9×30 chipset. We can’t conclude which chipset is better, after we get the device, we will test the function. Theoretically, Qualcomm chipset is better than Huawei, which also decides the high cost of ZTE Flare. The second one is Huawei E5786 support maximum 10 WiFi users while ZTE Flare could support 32 wireless terminals via WiFi.

It seems ZTE Flare is more powerful than Huawei E5786, after we get the price quote, use will make a balance between them.

Huawei Presents LTE Cat6 MiFi E5786

As the world’s first mobile Wi-Fi hotspot (MiFi), Huawei E5786 with LTE-Advanced (category 6) was presented a few months ago. The Huawei E5786 allows downlink speeds of up to 300 megabits per second; of course, the wireless network must be equipped accordingly. A 3000 mAh powerful battery provides up to 10 hours of operating time, thanks to Wi-Fi 802.11ac, the full LTE Category 6 speed can make true on the terminal used. The Huawei E5786 is the direct successor of Huawei E5776, which came to Germany in early 2013 on the market.

Huawei have introduced the E5786 as the world’s first device that supports LTE-Advanced with up to 300 megabits per second in the downlink. The device is based on the the carrier aggregation technology for wireless transmission, depending on the cell bandwidth said top speeds are possible. In Germany, however, Carrier aggregation cannot use everywhere, but mainly in areas with high data volumes. Also, the launch date is not yet known – the provider Telefonica O2 , Vodafone and German Telekom are testing it diligently.

The modem is made by Huawei subsidiary HiSilicon. In addition to LTE, Huawei E5786 also supports both UMTS including DC-HSPA+ (up to 42.2 Mbit/s in the downlink) and GSM/EDGE. A maximum of 10 devices can be connected wirelessly to the router via wireless 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, an additional device is also connected via micro-USB. The (non-removable battery) has a capacity of 3000 mAh and should provide about 10 hours of running time.
Operation is via a web interface, as you already know it from other mobile Wi-Fi hotspots ago. Upon request, even other devices can be recharged via the Huawei E5786, if a suitable cable is available. Huawei calls this Reverse Charging technology.

Other equipment and Hands-On
Under a cover of the Huawei E5786 side, there are two connectors for external antennas. Since the E5786 “only” 2 × 2 MIMO support, you also need only two terminals. Theoretically, the speed would be by 4 antennas, ie MIMO 4 × 4, again in need of improvement.

Although the back of the Huawei E5786 can remove, the battery is built-in installed. Under the cover, there is a slot for SIM cards and a slot for MicroSD memory cards. A menu button on the top allows the operation of simple functions such as the wireless repeater function, which is already known on Huawei E5372.
